Where’d Iba go?

Meet Iba, probably the coolest four year old boy in Mali. He’s about to get lost in the market. See the whole book here.

We made this book as a fundraiser for the non-profit we started last year to promote local language literacy in Mali, American Friends of IEP. We’re friends with IEP ( L’Institut Pour L’Education Populaire) an incredible school just outside of Bamako, the capitol of Mali. Our most recent project with them was taking one of Casey’s stories about daily life in Mali she wrote while over there on a Fulbright, translating it into Bambarra (Mali’s predominant local language), and having it published as maternal language material for schools in the area.

We’re just about done fundraising for that project, and are looking to find ways to have American students/recent graduates work at IEP in Mali, and eventually run our own program back in Mali where we have Malian students writing stories that we’ll publish into a book. You can read about this and so much more on the American Friends of IEP website.
